Is God Trying to Tell Me Something?

Last night, I was picking up the living room and picked up two books that have been sitting on a table for months. I started them and just haven't finished them. I left them on the table, because I thought I would remember to pick them up and do them. I haven't. They are Elizabeth George's A Woman After God's Own Heart and companion devotional workbook.

While I was carrying them to my room, to place on a stack of books I intend to finish some day, I opened them to where I left off. The next four chapters I should have been reading were "A Heart that makes a house a home," "A heart that watches over the home," "A heart that creates order from chaos," and "A heart that weaves a tapestry of beauty."

Earlier yesterday, I'd been reading a blog that was complaining about how FlyLady just isn't possible for a house with 6 kids running around constantly. I commiserated and thought, "nor a house with three boys running around 24/7."

It has long been my motto that home schooling and house keeping were mutually exclusive; you can have one or the other, but not both.

Then today, in the new issue of The Heart of the Matter online there was a book review for Chaos to Order. (That's two witnesses, now) I have actually been getting Homemaking 911's newsletters for a couple of weeks now, you know how that goes.

After a rare breakfast that I cooked and shared with the boys, I told N (13) to put up yesterday's clean laundry and pick up his floor. He sat on his bed. Five minutes later I went down the hall to find him reading, clothes still on the floor. I set a timer and told him he would be lose weekend privileges if he wasn't done. Guess what? He still wasn't done. He then told me NO ONE could do that in 5 minutes. I promise it was not unreasonable. It was 3 pairs of jeans and a handful of dirty laundry.

So, I go back to the kitchen to put my dishes in the dishwasher and God...
(The two places I hear God the most often are at the sink and in the shower.)
tells me, "You don't really do what I ask you , either. Finish that book."

So, I'm blogging about it. Not to avoid doing it, but to encourage you. Homeschooling and housekeeping don't have to be mutually exclusive. Our Heavenly Father created order out of chaos (Gen. 1.) He made us(Gen. 1:26) in His image and likeness and He has not given us an unreasonable task.
We can do this.

Great post! I've been struggling with keeping up with the housework and homeschooling lately too. Thanks for the encouragement!

Hmmm. I've recently said on my blog that the real reason I homeschool is to avoid doing housework. I was only half joking. Wish I hadn't read this post; now God might expect *me* to do something with it.
:-)
But seriously, I think my husband is getting exasperated with my lack of effort around the house. i do need to step it up a little and try harder. I will have to think about this. I really *don't* want to read that book.
